Self-Care Is A Powerful Spiritual Act
Self-care is as much about taking care of your body and mind, as it is to nurture your soul. Sacred self-care is a spiritually-based practice, which will help you connect with your spiritual self. If you follow each of the following twelve steps, you’ll begin to experience awakening, healing, and a sense of personal fulfilment.
MORNING RITUAL – A morning ritual allows you to start your day with intention, inspiring a natural flow towards healing, health, wellness and presence.
JOURNAL – Give yourself time and space to journal. Writing out your thoughts is an essential part of your self-care program. The questions that arise as you journal will guide your process.
YOGA – A daily yoga practice is an essential part of the self-care program. Yoga will boost circulation and help stimulate lymphatic drainage and fluid. Dedicate 30 to 60-minutes a day to your practice.
MEDITATION – To truly cleanse the body, you need to cleanse your mind. When your mind is still and at peace, you can travel deep within yourself and connect to the spiritual and mysterious aspects of your existence.
MOVEMENT MEDITATION – Movement is an essential part of any self-care program. Moving your body allows it to breathe, stretch, circulate and sweat. Blood flow to the legs reduces, and blood flow to the digestive organs increases. This change in flow improves the efficiency of the digestive system.
MINDFUL EATING – To improve digestion and the absorption of nutrients, give your meals your full attention. Notice the flavours, textures and colours of your food and chew thoroughly. When possible, eat in a quiet place away from the computer and TV.
HOT TOWEL SCRUB – Take a washcloth, soak it with hot water, wring it out and then rub your entire body for 5-10 minutes. This practice calms body and mind, supports detoxification and helps build a loving connection with your body.
HOT WATER BOTTLE – At bedtime, or anytime comfort is needed, place a hot water bottle on your belly for 15-20 minutes. The heat brings energy and blood circulation to digestive organs, as well as creating a sense of comfort and relaxation.
MASSAGE/SAUNA – Treat yourself to a massage or sauna session. It will help stimulate lymphatic flow and release toxins.
PRAYER – Prayer allows you to feel connected with a higher energy source. Your inner wisdom is a term we use to describe the spiritual part of yourself. It’s a manifestation of light or energy of the highest frequency.
NATURE – Nature provides the best place on earth for self-care. Spending time with Mother Nature helps to reduce stress so that you can find clarity, refresh your mind, and invigorate your body.
SLEEP – Your body uses sleep as an opportunity to heal and rejuvenate. To complement your self-care program, try to get 7-8 hours per night. Minimise your exposure to bright lights for at least 2-hours before going to bed. And don’t forget, a dark room naturally activates sleep hormones.
